It-tribute band ‘Coldplace’ b’wirja mużikali b’risq
2/3/2006

On the 30th March the band Coldplace will give a music show of the famous band Coldplay at Gianpula fields in aid of YMCA Valletta in order that this filantropic society can continue with its services to the public.

Coldplace was founded in 2003 as a tribute band for Coldplay. They play famous songs such as 'Speed of Sound' , 'Fix You','Yellow', 'Politik', 'Shiver', 'Spies' and many more famous songs from all the three albums by Coldplay : Parachutes, A Rush of Blood to the Head and X & Y. Since they have been founded, Coldplace have toured the United Kingdom promoting Coldplay's music and creating the same atmosphere.

YMCA valletta was founded in 1976 and is part of the YMCA international network. YMCA Valletta is a filantropic agency which does not make ant profit as its aim is to provide professional social services to those who do not have a roof upon their heads or emotional support. YMCA specializes in work with individuals and families who don't have a place where to live. In 2004 YMCA opened 'Dar Niki Cassar' ('House of Niki Cassar') which can hold up to 22 men, women and children. This house is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In 2005 YMCA Valletta helped 1,283 individuals, a number which does not include the 2007 persons who benefited of the food program by the European Union. The total is 6,405 interventions with 9,000 clients.

Minister for Tourism and Culture Francis Zammit Dimech who was present for the news conference at Baystreet which gave the start of the activity in Malta by Coldplay, praised YMCA Valletta for their filantropic work in aid of the needy. He said organisations such as YMCA dererved every bit of support in order not only to continue with their work, but multiply them by growing. " Coldplace's visit to our country is a unique occasion for all those who follow Coldplay and enjoy their music. Their popular music brought Coldplay to win two prestigious prizes on the 15th February during the Brit Awards 2006: the Best British Single thanks to their song 'Speed of Sound' and the Best British Album 'X & Y' ", said Minister Zammit Dimech.

Minister for Tourism and Culture said that a concert such as this which is going to be performed by Coldplace, apart from giving a unique opportunity to all those who follow Coldplay's music and aid YMCA Valletta in their work, give tourists who visit us - many of which come from the United Kingdom - a chance to follow their favourite music band and therefore aid the country's promotion for an exceptional experience in the music industry.

Minister Zammit Dimech reminded that in our country were being organized various vocal concerts by famous singers which are continuing to put us on the music map which is part of the culture we are trying to promote for Malta.

In the meantime, Claude Muscat Doublesin, Vodafone Malta Limited's Brand Executive which is aiding this concert said : "Vodafone admires the useful work YMCA Valletta provides in our community and therefore it is our pleasure to support this group in organizing this concert. We are sure that the tribute band's concert of the popular band Coldplay will be very much appreciated by the Maltese audience. Tickets for this event are on sale from all Vodafone outles and the profit from this event will help YMCA in their incessant services for the needy. Vodafone is also assisting YMCA through the campaign for the recycling of used mobile phones, where all profit will be given to this organization."
