"Went to the gig last night at the Chequer Mead in East Grinstead and what a great night. The whole family enjoyed it and the sound was fantastic."

17th February 2007 - Chequer Mead Theatre, East Grinstead

A memorable gig this is many ways, and a fitting finale for Jamie. The only down side was the van we'd been supplied with by the van hire company. We've been going there ever since we started travelling on the road and lined there pocket with probably thousands of pounds yet despite Shane having booked the van out when he arrived to collect he was told it had been hired out to someone else for more money! Suffice to say, Shane was not happy and let them know. They did eventually supply us with a replacement though but with the down side that it was fitted with a limiter. 62mph tops all the way down south and back! What a long slow journey it made for. Quite a long haul too - 5 hours each way it clocked in at. Anyway it was a journey well worth making.

Other than the snail's pace, it was nice drive down, sun shining most of the way and we'd plenty of time to get there so even at 62mph we made it with plenty of time to set up leisurely. The venue was a nice little theatre nestled in the town of East Grinstead, a quite picturesque town with some notable ye olde buildings. The two sound engineers were friendly lads and we had a hassle-free set up resulting in a really nice on-stage sound.

It was very different gig this from anything we'd done before. The audience were all seated and bar some occasional sing they were as quiet as a church mouse while we played the songs, though each was greeted with excellent applause. The singing for "they spun a web" was very funny actually with the crowd sounding like a church quoir and being possibly the most in tune sing-a-long for that bit of Trouble that we've ever had . Like I said at the start of the review, quite a fitting finale for Jamie this gig really. With the crowd being so quiet and attentive it was all about the music and muscianship and we rose to the occasion, rarely putting a finger or foot wrong the entire set. Jamie has been an excellent bassist for the band, his musicianship being top notch, his feel and timing being superb. It's sad to see him go but maybe one day we shall play together again. All the best Jamie!
