Coldplace believe that to give the audience the nearest experience to seeing Coldplay themselves, it's not enough to just simply play their songs live, but to also transmit the powerful feeling of Coldplay's songs across to the audience. After all, Chris Martin and crew are so massively popular because of both the strength of their songs and their ability to communicate the emotion that they put into their playing both in the studio and the live environment. Their live shows in particular are legendary. Who can deny having been moved by such powerful songs such as The Scientist, Shiver, Yellow and Spies, to name just a few? It is this quality that Coldplace believe is the most important aspect to ensure is present in their live performances and one which, the band humbly feel, they have achieved. Formed in late 2003 and after spending a considerable amount of time in rehearsals honing their skills, the band began gigging in earnest around the UK including some of the top tribute band venues such as The Limelight Club in Crewe, The Horn in St Albans and Mr Kyp's in Poole. In addition to numerous pubs and clubs around the country, Coldplace have performed at the Mathew Street Festival in Liverpool to an estimated 20,000 people and was booked back the following year to play on the main stage to an estimated 38,000 people! The band has also recently featured on BBC's Radio 2 show A Tribute To The Tributes and was also mentioned on SKY NEWS as The Tribute To Coldplay. As a result of the Mathew Street Festival performance, the band were invited to headline the inaugural Cotswold Bamboo Festival. The highlight of the band's career so far though has been a concert in Malta. The band performed to over 1,200 Maltese including some high profile VIPs such as top TV presenters, TV executives, Malta’s footballer of the year etc and were supported by Malta’s biggest selling artist, Ira Losco. Everyone enjoyed the show that much that the band have been invited to return to perform at a charity festival with a few other tribute bands and Sir Bob Geldof himself. Shane Crofts : Vocals, Keyboards and GuitarsShane has been playing guitar and piano since the age of 14 and at 16 had his first band with a couple of mates, they played a couple of private gigs, after that he just wanted to perform and has since been playing guitar in a local duo. Shane decided to do a coldplay tribute about 2 years ago but didn't get the band together until taking singing lessons to improve his vocals, after that it was all go. He truly beleives that our sound and passion when we perform is as near to Coldplay as it gets. James Brown : Lead GuitarsJames has been playing guitar from an early age but Coldplace is his first band. Why he hasn't been in a band before we'll never know because his technique is excellent and his ability to reproduce Johnny's guitar parts is equally excellent. (and no, he hasn't got a brand new bag) Asa Crofts: Bass GuitarAsa started playing the Bass last year, when finding out the old Bass player was quiting (Jamie). He has really settled into the band and now has that passion for playing Coldplay's music and performing live. Wayne Birch : DrumsWayne started his musical career playing percussion (congas, bongos and all other kinds of percussion paraphernalia) with a local band called Sorbet, who played a lot of old 70s disco covers as well as their own originals in the funk/acid jazz vein. They won the inaugaral Viking Radio battle of the bands which covered the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire area. Since Sorbet split he has played drums in a local covers band before joining Coldplace. Gail Howson : Strings and Backing VocalsGail is the fifth member of the band. Because Coldplace endeavour to sound as much like Coldplay as Coldplay themselves, we felt it important to include strings and backing vocals in the set-up. For this purpose, Gail is the additional fifth member of the band. She is very experienced having performed in various capacities for a number of years, primarily as a solo vocalist. |
